SJM demonstrates commitment to preserving Macau’s rich arts and cultural heritage

[Macau, 28 May 2018] – Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (SJM) proudly sponsored a show-stopping press conference at Grand Lisboa Hotel to celebrate the launch of Art Macao – the city’s first five-month international arts and culture festival from June to October this year. At the press conference, Grand Lisboa Hotel unveiled an impressive 1.2-metre-high chocolate art sculpture along with other masterful works of culinary art designed by Grand Lisboa’s Executive Pastry Chef Norihito Muranaka and the hotel’s Michelin-starred chefs – all in honour of the first edition of Art Macao.

Taking the opportunity of sponsoring the Art Macao press conference, SJM showcased art through the culinary world for guests to enjoy a unique Art & Dine experience. The press conference also marked the beginning of the Art & Cultural Journey led by the Macao Government in June.

Chef Norihito’s 1.2-metre-tall edible masterpiece, weighing 72 kilograms and made entirely of chocolate, was revealed for the first time at the press conference to the public. As a finishing touch to the piece, Chef Norihito added the “Art Macao” logo – a symbol of the city’s commitment toward preserving art and culture. Then, Michelin-starred chefs presented a series of exquisitely hand-crafted canapés from Robuchon au Dôme, The 8 and also Casa Don Alfonso.

“Macau’s rich cultural heritage and modernity is like nowhere else in the world,” Chef Norihito said. “Through this chocolate art sculpture, we are honouring Macau’s rich cultural heritage which is a beautiful blend of East and West, while also celebrating the city’s bright future. I am delighted to have the opportunity to create this special piece in celebration of Art Macao.”

Throughout the five-month Art Macao festival, SJM will feature seven multi-dimensional exhibitions across its properties for guests to admire. Chef Norihito’s exclusive Grand Lisboa Art Macao culinary masterpieces will be available for purchase at the hotel’s U2 level Round-The-Clock Coffee Shop. A smaller version of the chocolate photo frame, along with a limited edition, a 12-piece Art Macao Chocolate Box, will also be available at the coffee shop and priced from MOP120.
