2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macau’s return to China. As a grand tribute to the year of double celebration, the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head, restored to China by Dr. Stanley Ho and now being exhibited at Grand Lisboa Hotel, Macau, will be returned to China for permanent collection.

SJM presents the “Special Exhibition of the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head” at Grand Lisboa Hotel from today to 6 November 2019 to kick off the return of the national treasure to China for permanent collection. A launching ceremony was held on 31 October 2019 at Grand Lisoba Hotel, officiated by Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau SAR Government Mr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR Mr. Wang Xindong, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau SAR Mr. Yuan Hengge, and President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government Ms. Mok Ian Ian officiated at the ceremony, together with the board members of SJM and SJM Holdings including Ms. Daisy Ho, Ms. Angela Leong, Dr. Ambrose So and Mr. Timothy Fok.

Ms. Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said in her speech, “The Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head was restored to China by Dr. Stanley Ho in 2007 after its expatriation for nearly one and a half centuries. The Bronze has been on display in Macau for twelve years, passing on the message of patriotism while witnessing the successful implementation of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ in Macau. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macau’s return to China, the return of the Bronze to the nation for permanent collection via an official donation to the National Cultural Heritage Administration serves as a grand tribute to the year of double celebration. The Bronze will also carry with it our warmest wishes to the people of China, and our sincere wishes for the complete reunification of the Motherland.”

To enable the public to bid farewell to the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head, SJM presents the “Special Exhibition of the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head”, running from now until 6 November 2019 at 7/F Camellia Room, Grand Lisboa Hotel, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from 4 to 6 November).

After donating the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Boar Head to China in 2003, Dr. Stanley Ho purchased the Yuanmingyuan Bronze Horse Head for HK$69.1 million in 2007 to return it to China.
